Entremedio/ In Between is a project created during my senior year in college.
As a Mexican-American who has experienced life in its majority in Tijuana, México crossing the border to San Diego, CA often, I have always thought of myself as someone who is constantly between countries, cultures, languages, relationships, etc.
My research consists of attempting to access and hold both sides of myself in their most absolute and complete form while dancing. Through dance, I explore and try to blur the divide between my Mexican and American selves and be able to mesh these two sides into one whole. The goal is to explore the intricate reality of being a bicultural human and discover what and how each culture influences life.
The book Borderlands by Gloria Anzaldúa was a source of inspiration, support, and validation for my experience as a human and artist.
Entremedio/ In Between is an improvisation/research based solo with only a few fragments of set choreography. It is a raw, emotional and challenging research that teaches me something new every single time. It has been performed to an audience twice.
