ABOUT

Alyssa Moreno is a Mexican American dance artist located on both sides of the border of San Diego, CA, and Tijuana, MX. She is a passionate, driven, and curious lover of movement with 15+ years of training in various dance styles. As the only artistic individual in a large family, she feels a certain responsibility to promote the arts and let all those willing to learn and listen know that dance is more than just a hobby and/or passion; it is a way of life.

She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance from San Diego State University.

During her time in college she rediscovered and redefined what dance meant to her. The summer of 2023, where she had her first true encounter with movement research, her life changed. By maintaining an open mind and a vulnerable heart during her senior year, she was able to create and develop a research project “Entremedio/ In-Between” with the support of her mentor Jess Humphrey and friend Chazley Schoettle. With this research, Alyssa navigated, questioned, accepted, challenged, and learned to love all the types of borders that existed between her Mexican and American self. Even after graduating she carries this research, its questions and findings with her everyday; the research has not ended, it has only just begun.

As a new chapter of her life begins, Alyssa Moreno is currently a dance instructor on both sides of the border, where she enjoys sharing her passion and knowledge with students as she continues to learn and evolve herself, encouraging questions and problem-solving in class.

With dance being part of her life for eighteen years, she has discovered that movement can be many things, such as play, meditation, research, a form of therapy, a creative outlet, and a manifestation of authenticity and love.

In her 23 years of life, she has always found her most authentic self in and with dance.
